AEG Landslides Virtual Symposium:

From Detection to Decisions: Emerging Methods for Landslide Detection, Characterization, Monitoring, Early Warning, and Event Response

May 19, 2026

10:00am-2:00pm Mountain Time

Landslide practice is rapidly shifting from being data‑limited to interpretation‑limited, as repeat topography, satellite observations, and image‑based monitoring become easier to access and more scalable. This symposium will provide an applied, state‑of‑the‑practice overview of emerging methods for landslide detection, characterization, and monitoring that professionals can use today across project scales, from regional screening to site investigations.

AEG AI/Machine Learning

Virtual Symposium:

August 26, 2026

12:00pm-4:00pm Eastern Time

Moderator: Nate Saraceno, GFT

Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering applied geoscience practice, but its value depends on how well it is grounded in geologic understanding, field observations, and professional judgment.  This half-day virtual symposium will explore how AI-enabled tools, including machine learning approaches, are being used to support geologic interpretation, monitoring, hazard assessment, decision-making, uncertainty evaluation, communication, and professional workflows. The program is intended for geologists, geoscientists, engineers, and other applied professionals interested in how AI is being used responsibly and effectively in geologic practice.

AEG Landslides Super School

November 10-12, 2026

Denver West Marriott, Golden, Colorado

The landslide super school will include 2 classroom days and 1 field day to give attendees a depth of knowledge in landslide identification, characterization, and mitigation. Planned topics include landslide susceptibility and inventories, morphology and landforms, data collection and investigation, and stability modeling and mitigation design.

The speaker roster will draw on the depth of local expertise while also incorporating nationally and/or internationally recognized experts to ensure a broad and diverse perspective. The committee plans for presentations to reflect the full spectrum of landslide practice, including geomorphology, remote sensing, site characterization and investigation, numerical modeling, societal impacts, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies. The field component will include stops at notable local landslides to observe landslide features and morphology, damage to structures and infrastructure, and mitigation efforts.
